CEFAE (Centro de Estudos e Formação Aquiles Estaço)

Vidigueira - Portugal

CEFAE (Centro de Estudos e Formação Aquiles Estaço) is a private school in the vocational education system. It is the owner of EPFA (Escola Profissional Fialho de Almeida), a Vocational School that is situated in the south of Portugal (ALENTEJO), in a small town called Vidigueira, in Beja’s district. Alentejo region is one of the poorest regions of the EU, it has a lack of industry and enterprises and few perspectives. CEFAE/EPFA is located in the small rural village of Vidigueira which shares the same characteristics with the rest of the areas around Alentejo: it has a high rate of unemployment and school leaving, the population tends to decrease and it is ageing or migrating to more attractive places. As a Vocational School, EPFA approaches professional education in a perspective that values and focus on the development of professional skills and competences of the students. EPFA has focused on developing technological/vocational courses that can satisfy the needs of Alentejo, providing skilled workers that will hopefully help the growth and development of the region. EPFA students attend different vocational courses like: Multimedia, Graphic Arts, Social/Cultural Entertainment, Communication, Marketing, Public Relations and Advertisement, Rural and Environmental Tourism, Merchandising, Social and Psychological Care, Viticulture and Enology, Food Processing and Quality Control, Agriculture, Sports Management and Health Care.
CEFAE/EPFA has a team of few teachers and staff quite motivated to work with students in national and international projects. Most teachers/staff are willing to travel, to learn new technologies, languages and methodologies of teaching and to develop their ICT and communication skills. As we are a vocational school and all the students attend several technical and vocational subjects, most teachers are used to work in teams and multidisciplinary activities are quite common, which allows the students, staff and teachers to develop their professional and vocational skills and competences and at the same time create strong satisfying bonds and rewarding relations within the school. Most teachers and staff are willing to embrace new projects in order to motivate their students, to make them strive in order to accomplish their goals and to provide them opportunities they couldn't enjoy outside our school, such as visiting new countries as a way of enriching their lives and cultural knowledge. Our teachers are also open to learn new subjects and new ways of teaching so that they can improve their own teaching methods and class environment.
